My name is Roger Hutchins and I am a fully qualified professional illustrator and graphic designer.
My qualifications are as follows:
-

-
Art A Level in 1984
-
Foundation course diploma in 1987
-
BA Honours in Graphic design in 1990
-
City & Guilds 7407 teaching qualification for adult education in 2007.
I began teaching adult education classes in 2006, and continue to do this. I have taught students how to paint in Watercolour, Pastels, Acrylic, Gouche and oils.
In the 'class demos' page above, you can see a small number of the demonstrations I have done in my classes.
I have also taught childrens' book illustration courses, how to make 'pop ups' for pop up books or pop up greetings cards and Calligraphy classes.
In September 2018 I held my first exhibition at Orleans House Gallery which I called 'Retro Perspectives' and was the most comprehensive collection of my artworks. It was housed in the Stables Gallery from September - November. Several of these works sold during this exhibition. As well as being their 'artist in residence', I also held various demonstrations for the public to watch and even join in as I went along!
I began teaching online classes in 2020 painting 'upside down' to the camera so my students could easily see what I was doing.
I am a very keen and active member of a miniature railway in Woking and have some of my artworks on view in their station building as well as information boards around the site. I have also designed calendars and postcards for them. A lot of my inspiration comes from photos taken at this beautiful 10 acre wooded site.
My wife Rachel and I own a caravan at Thorness Bay, Isle of Wight (North side, near Cowes) and again, this has provided me with an awful lot of inspiration; not just the stunning island itself but also our incredible site is a great source of inspiration for me; all of these works can be found under the subpage 'Isle of Wight artworks', under the 'artworks' tab above.
